Entsoft And Graham Dyke Photography News Items.
- NEW Photo Gallery - Weggis/Lucerne/Lake Lucerne - Switzerland.
- I’ve really excelled myself this time :-) The largest Gallery to date with 155 photo’s from the very pretty Lake Lucerne area of Switzerland. I was actually based in Weggis for this trip, it’s self one of the nicest towns on the shores of Lake Lucerne. There’s also a large number of photo’s from a trip around the Ballenberg museum, I highly recommend a vist if you are in the area with a day to spare. The photo’s also cover Lucerne, Pilatus and many of the lake steamers.
- Photo Gallery - Switzerland - Villars - Skiing.
- It was that skiing time of year again (March) and off we went to Villars in the Lake Geneva region of Switzerland. I was not quite sure what to expect after reading some rather damning reports on Villars. I need not have worried though as we found the skiing to be fantastic, with more than enough to keep us advanced-intermediates happy for the week. In fact we only got to ski about 20% of the total area covered by the lift pass during the week.
- The lift pass actually covers over 120km of marked piste and over 76 lifts of various flavours. The area covered is: Villars, Gryon, Les Diablerets, Les Mosses and Leysin. although only Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets are lift linked. To get to Les Mosses, or Leysin you will need to get on a bus.
- Awesome scenery and very well groomed pistes. We stayed at the Hotel Le Bristol, which I can recommend most highly. Its only a 5 minute walk from the mountain railway station in Villars, which takes you directly to the Bretaye ski area. Or if you prefer you can get the free ski bus to the Villars-Roc d’Orsay gondola, which stops right opposite the hotel Le Bristol.
- Anyway the photos are just a click away, take a look.
- Photo Gallery - Christchurch (UK).
- A quick walk round Christchurch one August afternoon gives us a very concise view of one of England’s old coastal towns.
- Photo Gallery - Glastonbury Tor (UK).
- A slightly different view of this iconic summer music festival village and surrounding countryside.
- Photo Gallery - Great Bales Of Hay.
- I had forgotten how photographically busy I was in August 2009, but the great British late summer just wouldn’t be the same without those Great Bales of Hay.
- Photo Gallery - Houghton Lodge (UK).
- This is a very pretty period English lodge set in the Hampshire countryside. The surrounding gardens and Lama farm make for an interesting afternoon walk. Entrance is via an honesty box system and they also have a wonderful tea room, which is self service, yes really self service. You make your own tea and cut your own cake. Again its run on an honesty box system. All the cakes are made locally and very nice they are too.
- Photo Gallery - Oxford (UK).
- I had not had a trip to Oxford for years, so to round off the summer of 2009 off I went for the day. I managed to shoot a larger than normal Gallery for this to spite the town centre being a bit of a building site, with road and pedestrian improvements abound. I almost felt as inspired as all those young brainiacs that were on their college open day visits in preparation for a potential place at one of these world renowned colleges, in this great seat of learning.
- Photo Gallery - The Stour Valley Way (UK).
- I had a couple of hours free on a recent visit to Bournemouth and managed to find my way onto the Stour Valley Way and Local Nature Reserve.
- Photo Gallery - Switzerland - Saas Fee - Skiing.
- We took a Skiing holiday to Saas Fee, Switzerland in March 2009. The snow was pretty much guaranteed, well it would be at 3000 meters, I guess. The scenery was awesome, food great, hotel spot on.
- Unfortunately the high altitude proved just a little too high for one member of the group, whoops, something to bear in mind if you are planning to go to a snow sure resort, but the little drops from the chemist seem to work pretty quickly.
- Have a look at the views that we had for the week, just follow the link. As for the skiing, well I found Saas Fee a bit of a strange place really. All the lifts seem to be open when the weather is really bad, then as soon as the sun comes out, the wind gets up and it all shuts, bummer. Still that’s just one of the problems you seem to get when you go high.
- Having skied Wengen on a number of previous seasons, I would definitely recommend that over Saas Fee. We’re going to give Villars a shot in 2010 and will post a gallery on return.
- Photo Gallery - Val Gardena - Selva - Italy.
- Staying with the Alpine theme, this gallery is definitely one to have a look at if you prefer the Alps in the summer months. Val Gardena is certainly aptly named (Garden Valley) and must be one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited.
- The three villages of Selva (1563m), Cristina (1428m) and Ortesei (1236m) wind their way up the Val Gardena over a 6 mile distance. There is just so much to do there, walking, cycling, sports centers, swimming, climbing, to name but a few.
- We stayed in Selva, which is furthest up the Val Gardena and to my mind is the prettiest of the three villages. The food is wow and accommodation top notch. You wont find any bargain accommodation in the Val Gardena and the Italian Dolomites generally tend to command a bit of a premium when it comes to accommodation, when compared to the Alps proper. But you do get what you pay for.
- Have a look at the gallery and judge for yourself.
- Photo Gallery - Ampfield Arboretum - Hampshire - UK.
- The images in this gallery were taken during three separate visits, over a twelve month period. I always find plenty to photograph at Ampfield Arboretum and there’s always something new on every visit. A huge amount of effort goes into maintaining the Arboretum and it’s a glowing testament to the skill of those that work there.
- I hope you will enjoy the images in this Gallery as much as I did taking them and don’t forget all the images on this site can be purchased. The details are below and on each of the Gallery index pages.
- Photo Gallery - Concorde (G-BOAF) At Filton - UK.
- The last Concorde to fly, G-BOAF, is being kept for posterity at the birth place of The Concorde, at Filton, Bristol, on the BAE site at Golfcourse Lane. I spent five years at the old Rols Royce Rodney Works on the same site during the 1980’s, working on a number of RR Engines, including the Olympus 593 used in the Concorde.
- So as I was in Bristol for the weekend I though I would pay them a visit. Anyone can go along to the “Concorde at Filton” and take the tour of the BAE site which ends with a guided tour round Concorde G-BOAF. The cost is about £12.
- I must confess to getting special treatment, as I was an ex Rolls Royce employee, who worked on part of Concorde. I was given a tour in a group of one, just me and the guys were fantastic, it was all a bit nostalgic really. But it did enable me to get some great images, that would not have been possible had it been a regular tour. So thanks to all at “Concorde at Filton”.
- Have a look at the Gallery and maybe pay them a visit, it’s open all year round and Bristol has a great deal more to offer as well.
